Multi-Department Athletics Graphics Program for university athletics department in Bloomington, IL

§ The Challenge
What the customer needed
Athletics work runs on a calendar nobody controls. A locker room has to be finished before the season starts and the athletes come back, and that date does not move. The spaces themselves are the other constraint: locker rooms and team areas are only open at certain hours, with staff and athletes moving through, and there is rarely room to spread out. A university also has more than one customer inside it. Each sport, and each department, has its own space, its own budget, and its own idea of what it wants.
§ The Solution
What we did
We started with one project and kept going. Photo-mosaic wall murals in the men's and women's track and field locker rooms, built from team photography and carried around interior corners so the image stays continuous. All-time top ten record boards for track and field, designed with drop-in printed inserts so the department updates records itself as they fall instead of calling us back. Championship year graphics on the softball outfield wall and identity on the dugout. A locker room door graphic and a cut-shape logo sign in the flag football coach's office. Locker magnets with custom athlete names, foamcore team displays, and outfield team logos. And outside athletics, an acrylic standoff-mounted lobby sign for Integrated Health and Human Performance. Every install was scheduled around access to the space and finished before the season it belonged to.

What changed after install
One referral to the athletic director has turned into about 14 projects across two years and multiple sports. The athletic director referred us on to other departments inside the university, including Kinesiology, which is how a job that started in a locker room ended up in an academic building. Institutions do not hand out internal referrals casually, and they are harder to earn than a bid.
